200 Pounds Beauty - Review

200 Pounds Beauty is a Korean movie regarding the popular trend of getting plastic surgery. In Korea, parents gift their children with procedures such as double-eyelid and v-line (jaw) surgery as early as their 13th birthday. In this movie, actress Kim Ah-joong plays an overweight Han-na who wants to be a singer but will never become one, as society would never like a "fat" entertainer. In order to boost her confidence and attempt to follow her dreams, she gets full-body plastic surgery.

But after changing her look, things don't turn out how she wants them to. I won't spoil the movie, but a lot of hilariousness, frustration, and sadness ensues. The movie isn't against getting plastic surgery, but it conveys a good message that looks aren't everything. Even if one were to completely change his or her looks, they still might not be happy.

After watching this movie, I really felt a renewed sense of optimism and reminded myself to never take things for granted. I really think everyone should watch this movie, even if not particularly interested in Korean culture. The effects are kind of outdated, as this was released in 2010, but they're still bearable. Really good watch!
